Recently, there have been many activists protesting the prisoners at Guantanimo Bay. Many have criticized the food or lack of food being eaten by prisoners, torture and the like. I was reading an article in the Metro the other day, and Dick Cheney (I think it was him) commented on this prison. He said that mostly all of the people are terrorists. Now, mostly did not sound very strong to me. Maybe Cheney was having a brain fart that day and used weird language, but a prison as controversial and life changing for the people in it, needs to be more than mostly.
Despite all the criticism, I go back to the Japanese interment camps we had in the US not too many years ago. After the attack on Pearl Harbor, US gathered the Japanese and took them from their jobs and homes and in interment camps. We were AFRAID! Amazing what fear will lead us to do: produce hell in the lives of our brothers and sisters. This is the same thing that is happening today in a sense. People from the Middle East thrown into this harsh torture camp--granted not in the scale of the Japanese, however for long periods of time. In 30 years we will think again, how did we ever do that to this group of people? People died because we were afraid of the capacity of a people group. We took away their humanity--There was no reason to capture and torture them.
My second point, is that torture should never happen. My boss had a good point yesterday. He said that the prisons probably will not say any information that they might know because they know they will die anyways. Torture sucks. I am sure the people who actually have information have been trained to not say anything under and circumstance.
So, my thought is that some of the people at Gitmo may have some information. US does not seem to want these people alive if they starve them and torture there minds and bodies. It is an act of inhumane to imprison people no matter if these people are innocent or guilty of information. Once again, in 30 years we will look back and have another act to apologize for.
We live in a fallen world, this is behavior expected. The good part is that we have freedom of speech and freedom to practice faith in this country. What a great place to live...If we are not being tortured as terrorists. I am speaking these words to bring peace to these people, but also grace to the US gov't. Hey, I still live here...It must be a pretty cool place for some people:) And Grace does teach Godliness...
